Power is the most important factor that influences economic development of the nation. There is huge shortage of power in the country as a whole. With depleting fossil fuels, the concept ‘renewable source of energy’ is gaining importance world over. The Government has been encouraging setting up of mini power plants by utilizing renewable sources of energy.

The ever-increasing solid waste in urban and semi-urban areas has necessitated coining the concept of ‘Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management’. The principal objective of solid waste management is reduction of solid waste generation, separation of MSW and recyclable material, and recovery of compost and energy. Thereby protecting the public health, the environment and the natural resources (water, land, air, fossil fuels etc) vis-à-vis generation of electricity.

The renewable source of energy has attracted global attention and evoked immense interest among planners, policy makers, economists and environmental activists as a viable option to achieve the goal of sustainable power development and reduction in global warming. The 21^st century can be expected to move away from depleting fossil fuels for obtaining the energy requirements, if the current interest in renewable source of energy gets materialized into project to tap their huge potential. This leads to reducing impacts of environmental pollution.
